If you have invested in a set of premium alloy wheels — or just had them refinished — the way your tyres are fitted matters far more than most drivers realise. A conventional tyre machine uses a steel mounting head that presses directly against the rim flange. On a painted, diamond-cut, or polished wheel, that single point of contact is exactly where kerb-style scratches and lacquer chips appear. At The Wheel Lab in Alaquàs, just outside Valencia, we fit tyres on a touchless machine that never makes metal-to-rim contact, so your wheels come back exactly as they went on.

We see this problem constantly with expats and international drivers who arrive in the Valencia area with high-spec German and British cars. The wheels are immaculate, and the last thing anyone wants is fresh scuffing from a routine tyre swap. Whether you are fitting summer rubber, switching to a fresh set, or mounting tyres onto wheels we have just restored, we treat the rim as the valuable component it is.

What "Touchless" Tyre Fitting Actually Means

A touchless (or "no-contact") tyre changer replaces the traditional steel mounting head with a roller and bead-press system that works on the tyre, not the rim. The wheel is clamped from the centre bore rather than gripped on the outer edge, and the bead is broken and guided over the flange using polymer rollers. At no point does a hard metal tool slide across the painted or machined surface of your alloy.

The practical benefits are straightforward:

  • No rim-edge scratching — the most common cause of cosmetic damage during fitting is eliminated entirely
  • Centre-bore clamping — no clamp marks on the wheel face or spokes
  • Safe for refinished wheels — diamond-cut, painted, and polished finishes are protected
  • Better for low-profile and large-diameter tyres — stiff sidewalls that are awkward on a conventional machine are handled cleanly
  • Run-flat capable — reinforced run-flat sidewalls are mounted without forcing

Wheels We Fit Tyres On

Premium OEM Alloys

Factory wheels on Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Tesla, Porsche and similar — where rim-edge scratching ruins the look and the value.

Freshly Refinished Wheels

Wheels we have diamond-cut, painted, or polished. Touchless fitting protects the new finish on the way back onto the road.

Low-Profile Tyres

Short, stiff sidewalls common on sports and performance cars. Handled without levering against the rim.

Large-Diameter Wheels

19", 20", 21"+ wheels on SUVs and performance saloons, where bead tension is high and rim damage risk is greatest.

Run-Flat Tyres

Reinforced sidewalls that resist conventional mounting. Fitted with controlled bead-press tooling.

Aftermarket & Forged Wheels

Lightweight forged and split-rim style wheels that demand careful, no-contact handling.

Always Pair a Tyre Change with Balancing

A new tyre on a perfectly good wheel will still vibrate if it is not balanced. Every tyre and every wheel has small variations in weight distribution, and once they are assembled the combined assembly almost always needs correction. Skipping the balancing step after fitting is the single most common reason for steering-wheel wobble and seat vibration at motorway speed in the weeks after a tyre change.

For that reason we strongly recommend balancing each wheel at the same time as fitting. It is quick, it is inexpensive, and it protects your tyres, your suspension, and your comfort. You can read more about our precision balancing on our dedicated wheel balancing in Valencia page.

A note on valves and TPMS: Whenever a tyre is removed, the rubber valve stem is exposed and ageing — we recommend replacing it as a matter of course, as a perished valve is a slow-puncture waiting to happen. If your wheels have TPMS (tyre-pressure monitoring) sensors, we handle them carefully during mounting and can advise if a sensor service kit is needed. We will always tell you before doing anything that adds to the cost.

How a Tyre Change Works at The Wheel Lab

From arrival to a balanced wheel ready to refit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not on our touchless machine. The most common cause of fitting damage is the steel mounting head of a conventional tyre changer dragging across the rim flange. Our no-contact system works on the tyre with polymer rollers and clamps the wheel from the centre bore, so there is no metal-to-rim contact and no scratching of the painted or machined surface.
Yes, in almost every case. A new tyre adds its own small weight variations to the assembly, and an unbalanced wheel produces vibration through the steering wheel and seat at higher speeds, accelerating tyre and suspension wear. Balancing is quick and inexpensive, and we recommend it with every tyre fitting.
Yes. You are welcome to supply your own tyres — many of our clients order specific brands or sizes online and bring them in for fitting. We will inspect them, confirm they are the correct specification for your wheels, and fit and balance them touchlessly.
We recommend it. The rubber valve stem ages and hardens over time, and once the tyre is off, it is the ideal moment to fit a fresh valve at minimal cost. A perished valve is a frequent cause of slow punctures. If your wheels use TPMS sensors, we handle these separately and advise you accordingly.
Absolutely. We work with a lot of international and expat drivers in the Valencia area and are completely comfortable with premium German, British, and other European wheels. Send us your wheel and tyre details on WhatsApp in English and we will give you a clear quote before you visit.
