If you have kerbed an alloy on one of Valencia's tram lines or caught a pothole on the way out of the city, the first question is always the same: what is this going to cost me? The honest answer is that alloy wheel repair is far cheaper than most drivers expect — and almost always a fraction of the price of a new wheel. In this guide we break down the real 2026 prices at The Wheel Lab, what makes the figure go up or down, and how to tell when a repair simply is not worth it.

Alloy wheel repair prices by damage type

Every wheel is different, but the type of damage is the single biggest factor in the price. Here is what each of the common jobs costs.

Kerb rash and scuffs — from €85 per wheel

This is by far the most common job we see. Kerb rash is the scraping, gouging and material loss along the outer lip and spoke faces caused by brushing a kerb while parking. A standard kerb damage repair — filling, shaping and refinishing the affected area so it blends with the rest of the wheel — starts at €85 per wheel. The price holds steady for most cars; it only climbs if the gouging is unusually deep or the finish is complex.

Light bends from impacts — from €80 per wheel

Hit a pothole hard enough and the rim flange can deform out of its flat plane. You will usually notice it as a slow puncture (the tyre bead no longer seals properly) or a vibration through the steering. Straightening a bent rim on our hydraulic press, verified with a dial gauge, starts at €80 per wheel. Severe bends, or wheels that need straightening and refinishing, cost a little more.

Cracks and TIG welding — from €85 per wheel

A cracked alloy is a structural job, not a cosmetic one. We repair suitable cracks with TIG welding using an aluminium filler matched to the wheel's alloy, followed by heat treatment and finishing. Crack repair starts at €85 per wheel, but the exact figure depends entirely on where the crack is and how long it is — we assess every cracked wheel individually and will tell you plainly if it is not safe to weld.

Structural straightening — from €80 per wheel

Heavier deformation, where the rim needs reshaping with press and forming tools rather than a light correction, also starts at €80 per wheel. As with bends, we re-check runout afterwards and will not sign off a wheel that does not measure within tolerance for road use.

What changes the final price

The "from" prices above cover most everyday repairs. Four things can push the figure up or down.

  • Wheel size. A 17" wheel is quicker to refinish than a 21" or 22" rim from a large SUV or performance car. Bigger wheels use more material and more machine time.
  • Alloy type and construction. Cast wheels behave differently to forged or flow-formed wheels under heat and pressure, which affects welding and straightening work.
  • Severity of the damage. A light scuff is far cheaper than a deep gouge that has removed significant material, and a hairline crack is simpler than one near a spoke root.
  • The finish you want. Refinishing a single colour is straightforward; diamond cut, two-tone or a full colour change adds to the cost because the process is more involved.

Repair vs buying a new wheel

This is where repair almost always wins. A genuine OEM replacement alloy for a premium German car — Audi, BMW, Mercedes — routinely costs €400 to €900 per wheel, and sometimes more for larger diameters. Even for mainstream brands you are typically looking at €200 to €400 for an original wheel. Set against an €85 repair, the maths is rarely close.

Generic aftermarket wheels are cheaper to buy, but they often do not match your existing set exactly, and a mismatched wheel can look worse than the original damage. For anything other than a wheel that is genuinely beyond safe repair, refurbishment is the sensible choice — both for your wallet and for keeping a matched set on the car.

When a repair is not worth it

We would rather lose a job than return a wheel that is not safe. There are situations where we will recommend replacement instead of repair:

  • Cracks in high-stress areas such as the spoke roots, or a wheel that has already cracked and failed once before.
  • Severe corrosion that has eaten into the structural material of the barrel or bead seat.
  • Impact damage so heavy that the wheel cannot be brought back within safe runout tolerance.
  • Evidence of internal micro-cracking after a high-energy impact, even where the rim looks only lightly bent.

Safety note: we carry out a structural assessment on every wheel before any work begins, and we do not charge for it. We have no incentive to pass a wheel that should fail — our reputation depends on the wheels we send back being safe at motorway speed.

How a quote works at The Wheel Lab

You do not need to bring the car in to get a price. Send us a few clear photos on WhatsApp — the damaged area, the full face of the wheel, and the wheel size if you know it — and we will give you an honest estimate, usually within a few hours. If you do bring the wheel in, we strip and assess it, then provide a fixed written quote. No work starts until you have approved the price.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to repair a kerbed alloy in Valencia?

A standard kerb rash repair starts at €85 per wheel. The price only rises if the gouge is unusually deep or the finish is complex, such as diamond cut or two-tone.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace an alloy wheel?

In almost every case, repair is far cheaper. A repair from €85 compares with €200–€900 for a replacement OEM wheel, and refurbishment keeps your set matched.

Do you charge for an assessment?

No. The structural assessment is free and carries no obligation. You get a fixed quote before any work begins.

How long does a wheel repair take?

A cosmetic kerb repair with refinish typically takes three to five working days. Structural welding or straightening can take a little longer if heat treatment is involved.
