Diamond cut is the bright, almost mirror-like finish you see on the face of many modern premium alloys — the machined surface that catches the light, usually paired with a darker painted recess between the spokes. It is a factory finish created on a precision lathe, and when it gets kerbed or starts to corrode under the lacquer, the only correct way to restore it is on a lathe too. At The Wheel Lab in Alaquàs we have our own CNC diamond-cutting lathe, so we can return your wheels to their original machined finish rather than simply painting over the damage.

This is the kind of finish you will find on a great many of the German and British cars that expats bring to Spain — Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover, Jaguar, VW and more. If yours have been damaged, a proper diamond cut refurbishment makes them look factory-fresh again.

What Diamond Cut Actually Is

A diamond-cut wheel is machined on a lathe with a precision diamond-tipped cutting tool. The tool skims an ultra-thin layer of aluminium from the face of the wheel in a controlled spiral, leaving the bright, finely grooved surface that gives the finish its name. A protective lacquer is then applied to seal the bare aluminium.

Because the finish is created by removing metal, it cannot be recreated by hand or with paint alone. Restoring it requires the same process that made it: clamping the wheel on a lathe, indexing it accurately, and taking a fresh, even cut across the face. That is precisely what our CNC lathe does.

When a Wheel Needs Diamond Cut Refurbishment

Kerb Damage to the Face

Scuffs and gouges that have cut through the machined surface. The face is repaired, then re-cut on the lathe to restore the finish.

Corrosion Under Lacquer

White, milky corrosion spreading beneath the clear coat — the classic failure mode of diamond-cut wheels. Stripped, re-cut and re-lacquered.

Cloudy or Lifting Lacquer

Lacquer that has gone dull, hazy or started to peel. The wheel is refreshed and resealed to protect the bare aluminium underneath.

Previous Painted-Over Repairs

Wheels that were painted instead of re-cut by another workshop. We can strip them back and restore the genuine machined look.

A note on how many times a wheel can be cut: Every diamond cut removes a very thin layer of aluminium. A wheel can usually be refurbished this way several times over its life, but not indefinitely. We measure and inspect each wheel first and will tell you honestly if it has reached the limit of safe re-cutting — at which point a painted or polished finish is the better long-term option.

Inspected against the original spec and covered by our 12-month guarantee.

Our Own CNC Lathe in Alaquàs

Plenty of workshops claim to do diamond cut, but most actually paint a silver finish that only imitates the look — it does not have the true machined surface and it will not match an undamaged wheel on the same car. Restoring a genuine diamond cut finish requires a CNC lathe, and The Wheel Lab has one in its Alaquàs workshop.

That means we can re-cut a single damaged wheel to match the other three, or refurbish a full set to a consistent factory standard — and we back every job with our 12-month guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Diamond-cut wheels have a bright, machined face that catches the light, usually with darker painted recesses between the spokes. Look closely and you can often see very fine concentric grooves from the lathe. If you are not sure, send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight away.
Yes. Because we use a genuine CNC lathe, we can re-cut a single wheel to match the machined finish of the other three on your car. We will assess colour and finish so the repaired wheel blends in with the set.
Each cut removes a very thin layer of aluminium, so most wheels can be re-cut several times over their life. We measure each wheel first and will tell you honestly when it has reached the safe limit, recommending a painted or polished finish instead at that point.
A painted silver finish only imitates the look — it lacks the true machined surface and rarely matches an original diamond-cut wheel on the same car. For an authentic, factory-correct result, the face has to be re-cut on a lathe, which is exactly what we do.
